Miriam's Focus Issues

Housing &
Stability

I believe everyone needs a stable place to live.

When I was 18, I faced housing instability while finishing high school. I know what it is to be a renter and homeowner in King County. I know how hard it is to focus on your future when you are not sure where you will sleep.

  • Massively expand investment in affordable housing

  • Protect renters from predatory housing practices

  • Increase access to early housing support services for youth transitioning into adulthood to avoid youth homelessness

  • Provide concrete pathways for elders to keep their homes and age in place

Public Safety & Community Health

I believe safety means prevention, support, and accountability.

My father’s incarceration and return home showed me that our system must do more than punish. It must help people rebuild their lives, restore trust, and re-integrate fully on a realistic timeline, paired with meaningful accountability structures.

  • Deeper investments in mental health and addiction services including programs like King County Crisis Care Centers

  • Support and expand diversion programs and community-based safety programs tailored to the needs of each neighborhood

  • Expand reentry services for formerly incarcerated individuals

Supporting Immigrants & Refugees

I believe our county must protect and support immigrant families.

Economic Opportunity & Affordability

I believe everyone should have an equitable opportunity to succeed.

I watched my mother return to school while raising a family. That showed me how powerful opportunity can be when people are supported. Coming from a proud union home, and as a former member of PROTEC 17, I believe that strong worker and small business protections are vital to the health of our community.

  • Increase job access, education and training, as well as apprenticeship opportunities throughout King County

  • Support small business growth and stability, especially in unincorporated areas including agricultural endeavors that aim toward fighting food insecurity

  • Increasing access to childcare and daycare programs through the Best Start 4 Kids Levy

Accessible
Government

I believe the functions of government should be easy to understand and easy to access

I have seen how confusing and difficult it can be to navigate public systems. Too many people give up before they get the help they need.

  • Simplify access to county services

  • Improve responsiveness from agency staff

  • People-centered approach built into every step of governance

  • Work with agencies to develop more “boots on the ground” strategies to connect authentically with our communities

Community
Leadership

I believe real change starts with community then grows into policy.

In my culture, we have a tradition called Harambee. It means “all pull together”. It is about people coming together to support each other and build something stronger.

  • Continue to build community-led leadership with tangible power within governance structures

  • Expand volunteer leadership opportunities

  • Strengthen community-based organizing networks and foster inclusivity of new voices that are currently underrepresented
